Looking out the patio door I watch the blinking yellow, red and white lights of traffic flowing by on the highway. The swag of holly and Christmas lights behind me reflects softly in the glass of the patio door. The night is quiet. It is 3:34 a.m. My soul is easing back into life, reflecting on Christmas.
The lyrics of John Lennon's Happy Xmas (1971) rise from my memory.
So this is Christmas
And what have you done
Another year over
And a new one just begun
And so this is Christmas
I hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
The old and the young
And what have you done
Another year over
And a new one just begun
And so this is Christmas
I hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
The old and the young
A very Merry Christmas
And a happy new year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear
And a happy new year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear
And so this is Christmas
For weak and for strong
For rich and the poor ones
The world is so wrong
And so happy Christmas
For black and for white
For yellow and red one
Let's stop all the fight
For weak and for strong
For rich and the poor ones
The world is so wrong
And so happy Christmas
For black and for white
For yellow and red one
Let's stop all the fight
A very Merry Christmas
And a happy new year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear
And a happy new year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear
And so this is Christmas
And what have we done
Another year over
A new one just begun
And so happy Christmas
We hope you have fun
And what have we done
Another year over
A new one just begun
And so happy Christmas
We hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
The old and the young
A very Merry Christmas
And a happy new year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear...
And a happy new year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear...
As I look out into the still dark night, the yellow, red and white lights of the traffic are flowing faster now. Morning is coming... a new day.
Let's hope it's a good one, without any fear.
